Chris Tanev was born on 20th December 1989 and he is a famous Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League.

Chris Tanev was born in East York, Ontario and he has two brothers also. The names of his brothers are Brandon and Kyle. Playing minor hockey in the Biggest Toronto Hockey League, he played with the Toronto Red Wings. 

Chris Tanev resorted to playing for his high school group’s and took up roller hockey during the summer. 

After the completion of his graduation from his high school at the East York Collegiate Institute, he enrolled in the Rochester Institute of Technology as a finance major while playing college hockey. 

Chris Tanev Career 

He played in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League for around 3 seasons. With starting off through the Durham Furry in year 2006-2007, he recorded no goals and 9 assists over fourty games. 

He divided the following seasons among Durham, the Stouffville Spirit, and Markham Waxers renamed Markham Royals combined for 17 points (two goals and Fifteen assists) over 49 games among three groups. 

Playing campaign of 2008-2009 with Markham, he led all team defensemen in scoring 41 points in 50 games, at the time of serving in form of alternate captain; he was named the group’s top defenceman at the end of the season. 

In 2009-2010, he joined division 1 ranks of the NCAA through the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers of Atlantic Hockey Conference. 

On 31st May 2010 Chris Tanev signed as an undrafted free agent with the Canucks, foregoing his final 3 years of college hockey eligibility. 

He gained interest from minimum of three other groups involving the Ottawal Senators, San Jose Sharks, and Columbus Blue Jackets but ultimately chose Vancouver. 

Started the 2010-2011 season with the Canuck’s minor based league affiliated, the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. Against Rochester Americans, he scored his 1st professional goal on 13th November 2010.

After the various injuries to Canucks defenseman Andrew Alberts and Aarona Rome, he achieved his first call-up to Vancouver on 16th January 2011. 

On 31st March 2011 Chris Tanev had to be supported off the ice at the game against Los Angeles Kings after opposing forward Kyle Clifford pushed him head first into the end boards. 

In late 2012 January he was called up with the Canucks for a single game, then after that in mid-Feb until the end of the season. 

In 25th NFL game, he recorded 2 assists while also recording 14 assists over 34 AHL games in 2011-2012. 

Chris’ first NHL goal was scored on 4th Feb 2013 in an overtime win against the Devan Dubnyk of Edmonton Oilers. 

On 9th October 2020 he left the Canucks after 10 seasons. 

On 28th Feb 2024 he was traded through the flames to the Dallas Stars within a 3 team deal.
