Lathmar Holi at Barsana and Nandgaon: 

  • People of Mathura and Vrindavan play Lathmar Holi which reflects the Shri Radha Rani and Gopi’s thrashing of Lord Krishna with a stick as he smudges colors on them.
  • On 18 March at Barsana and on 19 March at Nandgaon, you can enjoy the excitement of this custom where men from Mathura travel to Barsana, and the Barsana women beat them lightly with sticks.
  • The custom lets people enjoy the jolly exchange of Gopis and Lord Krishna while playing Holi.

Phoolwari Holi at Banke Bihari Temple:

  • The Phoolwari Holi at Banke Bihari Temple reflects the story of Radha Krishna playing Holi with flowers.
  • On this day, devotees gathered at the temple to shower flowers on the Lord Krishna and the priest. 
  • The Phoolwari Holi symbolizes the love and devotion of Lord Krishna and Shri Radha. 

Chhadi Mar Holi at Gokul:

  • On this day, women beat men with light and small sticks instead of laths. 

Widow’s Holi at Radha Gopinath Temple:

  • The widow awaits this day to celebrate Holi with each other. 
  • Women staying at Mathura Vrindavan ashrams who have lost their husbands come together and enjoy this day with one another.

Holika Dahan:

  • The day celebrates the victory over evil when the female demon died while trying to kill the Lord Vishnu devotee Prahlad. People light bonfires, perform rituals, and worship Lord Krishna. 

Dhulandi Holi at Mathura Vrindavan:

  • This year on 25 March 2024 the whole of India will celebrate Holi and immerse each other in colors. At Mathura Vrindavan, the priest of various temples sprinkles Gulal and flowers on devotees, and people celebrate Holi with one another. 

Huranga Holi at Dauji Temple:

  • On this day, men and women gathered at Dauji Temple in Mathura after the Holi celebration to play the Huranga game. During the game, men pour buckets of colors on women, and in reply, women rip their shirts off. 

People also sing traditional Holi songs of Braj and perform folk dances. At many temples, you could see Ras-Leela portraying Lord Krishna and Shri Radha & Gopis of Mathura Vrindavan.
