Significance of Amavasya in April 2024

Somvati Amavasya holds great importance in Hinduism, as it is dedicated to showing deep respect and remembering the deceased members of the family.

According to Hindu beliefs, on Amavasya, the sunlight in the absence of moonlight reaches our ancestors, and the souls of departed members come down to the earth to visit their descendants.

According to Vishnu dharma, Amavasya marks the day as a day for Pitrus (ancestors’ spirits) and suggests performing rituals, such as Pitru Puja, yajna, etc., to please the ancestors and seek their blessings.

Amavasya prayers and rituals free our ancestors from negative energies and also help humans fight the negative energies flowing on Amavasya.

Many devotees often go to sacred rivers to take part in holy baths in sacred rivers on Amavasya to seek blessings from ancestors and purify their souls.

According to science, on this day, everything is extreme, from our emotions to gravitational force. On no moon day, the gravitational force of the moon is high and it pulls everything towards it, and people often feel an excessive flow of blood and energies in their body.

From a Spiritual perspective, it is believed that on Amavasya, the effects of evil spirits become powerful. As we know, the moon affects the human mind, and the absence of the moon can make people more mad and often lunatic if they are mentally imbalanced.
